Ecocentric Mom Box Review

October 2015 Mom & Baby Box

Having a baby prompted a lifestyle change for me. I admit that long before I was pregnant, I didn’t care to the level I do now about eating healthy and using natural products. But when we decided to start our family, I began researching changes I should consider making for the well-being of my child.

I removed a lot of the toxic chemicals surrounding me in the form of household cleaners and beauty products, and I became more purposeful about what I was putting into my body while growing a baby and breastfeeding a baby. I still have a long way to go, but I am infinitely more mindful of the choices I make for the health of my family. When choosing new products, I do a lot of reading and comparing of labels at the grocery store nowadays (I’ll say it again—thank goodness for car carts!). I primarily buy organic food and use green cleaners, and I’m still working on eliminating as many harmful chemicals from around our home as possible.

Here’s what I received in the latest Mom & Baby subscription box:

Love Child Organics Super Blends Pouch
$1.99 for a 4 oz. pouch (full-size included + promo code)

We’re always on the go, so I already keep a stash of organic food pouches in my diaper bag for any time my son needs a healthy snack or as a complement to a meal when we’re eating out. The pouch flavor included in the box was beets, sweet potatoes, apples + cinnamon with quinoa and acerola, which is similar to other pouches I currently buy. My son ate this pretty quickly, so it’s one I’ll buy again. Love Child Organics products are nutritionally focused, non-GMO and gluten-free with no fillers and nothing artificial. I also love that the company donates 1¢ from each pouch sold to children’s charities. I haven’t come across the Love Child Organics brand where I normally shop, but I’m off to check the website to see where it’s sold!

Enjoy Life Grab and Go Seed and Fruit Mix
$15.59 per 24-count (1.6 oz. included)

There was also a nutritious trail mix snack for moms in the box. Enjoy Life foods are free from the eight common allergens, nut-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and all-natural. I tried the Mountain Mambo variety, which has sunflower kernels, pumpkin seeds, raisins, apples, chocolate chips and cranberries. I would definitely buy more of these as well—the convenience of the Grab and Go packs makes it easy for me to toss one in my diaper bag to eat as a wholesome snack during the day.

Piyo Piyo Stylish Bendable Fork and Spoon Set
$4.99 per set (full-size included + promo code for 10% off order)

OK, this fork and spoon set is seriously adorable. My son loves the little ducks on top! And I love that they are bendable—so brilliant. They can be adapted for right- or left-hand use, and the bend makes it easier for little ones to learn how to use eating utensils successfully. These have a slip-resistant material on the handle and are easy for my son to grip. Piyo Piyo products are environmentally friendly and free from harmful chemicals. I’ve been carrying these in my diaper bag now to use when we’re eating out. The only negative is that they’re not dishwasher-safe, but these are worth hand-washing!

Piyo Piyo Pure Water Baby Wipes
$1 for a travel pack (travel-size included)

These wipes only contain purified water, plant extracts and moisturizing agents. They are hypoallergenic and free of alcohol, fragrance, chlorine, parabens, SLES and dyes. I’m not a fan of using anything that leaves an odd fragrance on my baby, and these passed the no-smell test. They are smaller than the wipes I currently use, but they are soft and thick and clean up messes nicely.

Acure Baby Fix-It Stick
$7.99 for a .5 oz. stick (full-size included + promo code for 20% off order)

The Baby Fix-It Stick is organic, fragrance-free and paraben-free. I can’t say how well it works because I haven’t had any “ouchies” of my own to try it on, but I like everything about it. It glides on smooth and feels so silky. You just apply it directly to your child’s skin and rub it in to soothe with the benefits of pumpkin, borage and pomegranate oils. It can also be used for lips, nose, scars and stretch marks. The stick application is convenient and makes it the perfect size to keep in a diaper bag (that’s where mine is) for the inevitable cuts and scrapes that will happen. And the cute monster face on the front could be a nice distraction from any pain.

Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm
$4.99 for a .15 oz. tube (full-size included)

I use lip balm all day every day, so I was happy to see the awesome ingredient list in this one. It contains Fair Trade ingredients sourced from small-scale global farming cooperatives and is certified organic. I received this lip balm in the Pure Pomegranate flavor, and while I don’t typically like flavored lip balm/lip gloss/lipstick, this one has just a hint of flavor that’s actually nice. It’s moisturizing and long-lasting, and there are other great flavors available as well as a flavor-free option. Most of all, I love the wonderful social mission behind it—every purchase supports cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for children in need. ♥

Ellovi Butter Minis
$26 for 3.5 oz. (.5 oz. included + promo code for 15% off)

This Ellovi body butter is made with just six ingredients that are ethically sourced and wildly harvested—and so pure that you could eat them! It’s great for sensitive skin, eczema and rosacea. Besides a body butter, it can also be used as a makeup remover and a nighttime facial moisturizer (though I haven’t tried it for that). There are four different scents that all sound like they would smell amazing—I received mint chocolate, which smells really pleasant and isn’t too overpowering. It soaks into my skin the perfect amount and feels ultra-hydrating every time I use it.

  1. This is such a cool service! I love the idea of getting a box full of goodies not just for me or for Adelaide, but BOTH of us! It’s also so awesome that you don’t have to worry about what may hiding in any of the products.

    1. I agree, Nikki! This is a great subscription box for moms at any stage. The Mom & Baby Box is designed for babies up to 18 months old, but I think it can extend beyond that age for sure. When it’s time to move on, it’s a simple switch over to the Mom Box. Getting goodies in the mail is so much fun!

  2. I love Ecocentric Mom! I have discovered so many fantastic products (for myself and my babies) through their boxes. The Seed and Fruit mix is going on my list of things to try. My daughter has nut allergies, and I am always looking for healthy nut-free snacks :)

  3. This is a great selection of products. I have tried the Seeds and Nuts mix and the Organic Love Child purees. They are really good. I’d like to try that lip balm. During the winter, my lips get so dry.

  4. That’s great that these are all natural eco friendly baby products and mom products. I love those flexible spoon and forks! I wish I had had those when my kids were babies. Looks like you scored some great items! This eco mom box would make a perfect holiday gift for any new mom.

  5. I keep hearing about different subscription boxes, but I’ve yet to try one. This one looks like it may be the one to change that! I’ll definitely be looking into it!

Thank you for sharing with us at #mommymeetupmondays!

    1. I was the same way! I was skeptical of whether subscription boxes were worth it or not, but I loved getting to try such a variety of mom + baby products without having to research them beforehand. I’m a researchaholic when it comes to baby stuff (well, everything really), so it was nice to have some of the legwork already done for me :)

  6. These are some great products. I regularly buy the Enjoy LIfe Not Nuts Seed and Fruit Mixes. I can send them to band reherseals where nut products aren’t allowed due to allergies.
