A weekend of heavy rain and flooding kept us from venturing outdoors in the cold, wet weather to experience our local tree-lighting festival this year. We had so much fun last year that it was a bummer to miss it, but I still wanted to take C to look at the 30-foot-tall Christmas tree when the weather cleared up.
We headed that way on a nice, sunny Friday after one of our weekly play dates, and I brought my camera along to snap a few photos of him in front of the massive tree as he saw it for the first time. C loved the huge ornaments, and I did snap a few photos—but as we were walking around the downtown square on the way back to the car, we stumbled upon a very merry scene, complete with poinsettia plants, twinkling lights, Santa’s sleigh and a nutcracker! Hello, Christmas card.
C spent most of the time doing toddler things like running around and NOT staying put, despite my pleas to “just stand right there for a few seconds, OK baby, and smile at Mama!” Instead, he alternated from gazing up at the nutcracker and smelling the poinsettia to trying to unlock the door and hightailing it back into my arms in a giggling fit. I still managed to get several good photos of him between the blurred motion shots, and this one best captured the scene. I did use it for our Christmas cards and was happy with the way they turned out!
My rule for Sunday Snapshot was just that—a single snapshot. But since I can break my own rules and we had lots of fun that day, here are a few more outtakes from our impromptu photo sesh (this is only my fifth Sunday Snapshot post, and I’m already causing trouble!):
I hope your shopping is done and you’re enjoying the last few days before Christmas. We’re really close—a few more presents to wrap and treats to bake and then I’ll be soaking in every last bit of the Christmas spirit. I love this time of year! We’ve been looking at Christmas lights every night and reading our growing collection of holiday board books. I can’t wait to see my son’s reaction to his gift from Santa that’ll be waiting by the tree for him on Christmas morning and to the empty plate of cookies/glass of milk after Santa visits our home. Ah, the magic of Christmas with little ones. I don’t think it gets better than that.
Wishing you lots of joy and happiness this holiday season and into the new year!
