Ecocentric Mom Box Review

March 2016 Mom & Baby Box

It’s Earth Day, which makes it the perfect time to share with you the special-edition Ecocentric Mom box I received celebrating 1% for the Planet. If you aren’t familiar with 1% for the Planet, it’s a nonprofit organization with more than 1,200 member companies worldwide that pledge to give 1% of their sales to sustainability-oriented nonprofits. To date, more than $100 million has been given back to this global network of nonprofits dedicated to protecting the environment. How great is that?!

The March box exclusively featured companies that, like Ecocentric Mom, are members of 1% For the Planet. I love to support businesses that give back, so it was great to learn more about the ones included in this special-edition box.

But not only that—if you’ve been thinking about trying Ecocentric Mom, I have some savings to pass on to you at the end of this post!

GoodLight Natural Candles – Birthday Candles
$2.99 for a 12-count box (full-size included + promo code for 25% off)

These candles came at the ideal time, right before my son’s second birthday party. I used two of them on his cake, and they worked great. (On his actual birthday, we couldn’t find any birthday candles in the house, so we had to settle on using a taper candle for him to blow out with his cupcake! True story—though he didn’t mind the huge candle, ha.) I know candles aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when trying to remove toxins from your home, but it is an important area to consider, especially if you burn a lot of scented candles made of paraffin wax (a petroleum waste product) or even soy wax (most of which is genetically modified). GoodLight Natural Candles are paraffin-free and lead-free, instead made with 100% palm wax, pure cotton wicks and nontoxic dyes. The GoodLight collection includes candles of all sizes from tea lights to pillars and most recently a new line of scented candles made with pure essential and botanical oils.

U•Konserve – Food Kozy Snack Bag
$3.95 for one bag (included + promo code for 20% off)

U•Konserve offers a complete line of waste-free and reusable food storage solutions. The Food Kozy Snack Bag is a reusable alternative to single-use, disposable plastic baggies. It’s just the right size for sandwiches and snacks on-the-go. I love the idea of this product, as well as the cute design! The snack bags are BPA, PVC, phthalate and lead-free. The U•Konserve line also includes stainless steel containers, glass bottles, lunch sacks and more.

(Elemental Herbs) All Good – Goop + Skin Food
Goop: $8.99 for 1 oz. jar (full-size included + promo code for 25% off)
Skin Food: $14.99 for 7.5 oz. jar (sample included + promo code for 25% off)

The All Good Goop is a handcrafted healing balm made with organic herbs and olive oil. It’s good for anything that needs soothing—cuts, scrapes, bites, burns, chapped lips, cracked skin, diaper rash and more. I love it. It smells amazing and has the silkiest texture. The All Good Skin Food, an organic coconut oil with lemongrass essential oil, is also pretty wonderful. You can never have too much coconut oil! It’s great for both mama and baby, and I feel like it moisturizes deep into my skin without leaving an oily residue.

LEAP Organics – Lip Balm
$3.49 for a .15 oz. tube (full-size included + promo code for 20% off)

LEAP Organics lip balm is certified organic and cruelty-free. I received this lip balm in Citrus, and I really like it—it’s ultra-moisturizing and the light orange citrus scent is pleasant. The coconut oil helps with smoothing and conditioning while the shea butter helps with moisturizing and softening. LEAP’s line of organic skincare products also includes a men’s line with shaving products and an award-winning moisturizer.

Finger Puppets Inc. – ThumbThings Finger Puppet
$5 for one puppet (included + promo code for 25% off)

Our new elephant finger puppet makes for some adorable entertainment! These little finger puppets are knit by artisans in the rural areas of Peru under Fair Trade practices. They are each handmade, ethically sourced and eco-friendly—and they just won a 2016 Family Choice Award in the children’s products category. With more than 200 different designs to choose from, you’re sure to be able to find a collection of finger puppets your little one will love.

Mattole Valley Naturals – Full Spectrum Greens Blend No. 1
$7 for an 18 g pouch (full-size included + promo code for 25% off)

Mattole Valley Naturals provides handcrafted and high-quality nutritional formulas made from organic and wildcrafted ingredients. The Full Spectrum Greens Blend No. 1 gives you herbal greens daily to aid in health and longevity. Simply mix 1 tsp. in a glass with 4-8 oz. of water, milk, juice, etc. I’ve been mixing a scoop of the powder with a glass of orange juice and can hardly taste a difference in the juice, so this is definitely an easy way to get a whole-body nutritional boost to start your day.

Mama Chia – Chia Squeeze
$1.79 for a 3.5 oz. pouch (included + promo code for 15% off)

The other food item in this box was a Chia Squeeze Vitality Snack in Cherry Beet flavor. I sprinkle chia seeds on everything I can because they’re just so darn good for you, so I was excited to see a company based around chia! The Chia Squeeze is organic chia seeds + fruits + vegetables in a convenient pouch. Each one is high in omega-3, fiber and protein, making it a nutrient-rich snack anytime.

    1. You still can! There is an option for a Mom box, for moms with kids of any age :) I’ve been getting the Mom & Baby box, but I should probably switch over to just the Mom box now that my “baby” is 2, haha! I still like getting the baby products to try with him though—I’ve gotten some great ones we now use regularly.

    1. I hadn’t heard of it before! I’ve discovered lots of new eco-friendly companies through this subscription box. I’ll have to try the other flavors, but I think they’re worth it for the portability and nutrient boost. (It was strange to me at first to use something in “pouch” form though since my experience with squeeze pouches has only been with baby food!) :P
