Big Love for a Little Valentine

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a lovely weekend? We’ve never really made a big deal about Valentine’s Day in the past, so it wasn’t too different this year with a baby. Since becoming a parent, my joy comes from seeing my little one’s excitement with each first holiday we celebrate with him. Of course my hubs and I do still put in the effort to be thoughtful in our holiday gift-giving and gestures, but naturally much of our focus has shifted to our baby, and it’s been a lot of fun having a new guy in our lives to love on extra.

One of my favorite things are the holiday cards I get from Baby C. I’m glad my husband realized how much I love this and continues to do it because I look forward to receiving these sometimes funny, always endearing notes from baby. They’re the sweetest. And it’s nice to hear that baby and dada both appreciate mama so much. ;)

I made heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised when they came out looking like hearts, considering I just poured the batter on the griddle freestyle and hoped for the best. I look forward to when C is older and we can make these together! I imagine that cooking/baking/concocting in the kitchen with your kids is such a rewarding experience.

C even got his own heart-shaped pancake to nibble on. I hand-mashed together a quick purée of warmed bananas and blueberries to drizzle on top, and he was so excited to have his own big boy food to hold.

We spent the afternoon outside at our favorite local spot that offers great shopping and dining choices as well as nice strolling and play areas. We didn’t have any fancy plans or reservations and ended up having burgers for dinner followed by iced coffee and crepes for dessert later on the patio. An unusual dinner + dessert pairing, I know, but that’s the way I like it. :) I live for low-key evenings like this with my family. There were so many other families out playing too, and it made my heart happy.

We’ve enjoyed the nice winter weather we’ve had lately and spend every warm second we can outside. (So sorry, East Coasters—hoping for warmer days ahead for you!) Our Texas weather has been up and down though … it’ll be a sunny 70 degrees and short-sleeves one day and a rainy 30 degrees and coats the next. I’m not a fan of cold weather at all, so I’ll take this unpredictable, mild winter over a muddy/sleety mess any day, which tends to be the kind of winter weather we get in Texas when we do get it.

I mentioned in my baby’s first Valentine’s Day gift guide that I couldn’t wait for C to wear his V-Day outfit I found on Etsy, and I’m obsessed with how cute he looked in his mom tattoo-inspired onesie. I seriously wish he could wear this every day.

My sweet mama’s boy melts my heart. xoxo, valentines!

  1. Sounds like the perfect Valentines Day to me! I also love low-key family days, it’s the memories we make together and simply enjoying each other’s company that matters in the end! I absolutely love the heart shaped pancakes, wish I would have thought of that!
